Definition of pharmacokinetics
Pharmacokinetics describes what the body does to the drug.
The
object of pharmacokinetics is the study of the relationship between a
dosage regimen and the plasma drug concentration-time profile. The
mechanisms that determine this plasma-concentration profile (
absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) are characterized by
pharmacokinetic parameters. Diseases, drug interactions, physiological
or genetic variations may influence these parameters in a given
individual.”
